Jonas Aidoo, who was tabbed first team All-SEC and voted to the SEC All-Defensive Team this past season, has signed with the Arkansas men’s basketball program, head coach John Calipari announced.
Aidoo (pronounced AY-doo) played 90 games in three seasons at Tennessee, seeing action in 19 games as a freshman, 35 as a sophomore and 36 last season. His scoring and rebound averages went from 2.11 points and 2.21 rebounds as a freshman, to 5.09 and 4.89 as a sophomore, to 11.42 and 7.31 as s junior, finishing with 629 points and 496 rebounds in the three seasons.
Played in 35 games with nine starts and was the first Vol off the bench a team-high 19 times … Averaged 5.1 points and 4.9 rebounds with 44 blocked shots … Ranked seventh in the SEC in blocked shots (1.26 avg.) … Was Tennessee’s top offensive rebounder on the season (1.8 orpg) … Led the Vols in blocks 21 times and rebounding eight times … Was Tennessee’s team leader in rebounding (5.2 rpg) and blocks (1.4 bpg) during SEC play … Through Tennessee’s three NCAA Tournament games, he shot a team-best .625 (10 for 16) while averaging 8.0 points and a team-high 5.3 rebounds … Posted a team-high-tying 10 points and seven rebounds in Tennessee’s season-ending loss to Florida Atlantic in the Sweet Sixteen (3/23/23) … Scored eight points, had five rebounds and blocked three shots in the NCAA second-round win over Duke … Was a team-high +15 in the first-round win against Louisiana … Played a then career-high 30 minutes in the home finale against Arkansas, scoring eight points on 4-of-6 shooting … Starred in Tennessee’s home win over top-ranked Alabama, posting his first career double-double and finishing with 12 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks … Had an eight-point, seven-rebound performance at LSU in which he grabbed five offensive boards … Scored a then career-high 15 points at South Carolina, making 2-of-3 from beyond the arc … Pulled down a then career-high 13 rebounds — six of which were offensive — with three blocked shots in a then career-high 29 minutes in the SEC opener at Ole Miss … Blocked a career high five shots and scored seven points with six rebounds against McNeese State … Filled the stat sheet during 24 minutes of action in the win over Kansas, totaling team-highs in rebounds (9) and blocks (2), as well as recording five points and three steals … In the win over Southern Cal, posted six points, nine rebounds and two steals in 25 minutes while recording a team-best +17 … Made his first career 3-point basket during the season-opening win over Tennessee Tech
