Just in:Senior Broncos lobby coach Kevvie to sign Tevita Pangai Jnr as injury crisis grows

Senior Broncos players have reportedly approached coach Kevin Walters in a bid to encourage the club to sign Tevita Pangai Junior.

That is according to The Courier Mail, who are reporting Payne Haas and vice-captain Pat Carrigan are among those desperate to recruit the middle forward.

Skipper Adam Reynolds is also supportive of the move, hoping to alleviate pressure on the squad amid an injury crisis that has claimed several key stars.
Broncos players reportedly first approached Walters regarding Pangai Junior around six weeks ago, prior to injuries to Haas, Reynolds and most recently Reece Walsh.

Pangai Junior, 28, departed the Bulldogs in August last year to pursue a career in professional boxing.

However, he has made a rugby league return this season and has featured for the Broncos’ affiliate Souths Logan in the Queensland Cup.

The former Bronco and Panthers prop is reportedly willing to take a salary of less than $300,000 this season.

He was axed by the Brisbane club midway through the 2021 season, having breached NRL ruled during the pandemic by visiting a barbershop the year prio.

Brisbane’s middle forward stocks took a hit following the 2023 season, with Tom Flegler (Dolphins), Kurt Capewell (Warriors) and Keenan Palasia (Titans) departing.

Should the Broncos attempt to sign him, Pangai Junior would reportedly cost around $277,000 if recruited close to the June 30 transfer deadline.
