Lifting the lid on his early days at Orlando Pirates, midfielder Patrick Maswanganyi discusses what he found unexpected.
Maswanganyi joined the Buccaneers at the beginning of the season from SuperSport United. He was quick to make his mark banging goals in the club’s pre-season tour in Spain.
The 26-year-old would go on and become the club’s mainstay as the season went on. His presence was felt in all 40 matches he played in all competitions, where he scored 10 goals and registered 12 assists.

On June 23, top performers in the 2023/24 Premier Soccer League and other domestic competitions were crowned.
Among the top winners were Mamelodi Sundowns’ Rhulani Mokwena who won the Coach of the Year Award and Orlando Pirates’ duo Patrick Maswanganyi and Relebohile Mofokeng was recognised as well after a successful campaign.
