Tennessee basketball is making moves in the portal following an Elite Eight exit to conclude the 2023-24 season.
Rick Barnes and company are staying busy recruiting from the portal, while some Vols have chosen to hit the portal and find new schools. Here’s a look at the current state of Tennessee’s roster when it comes to the transfer portal.
One of the hottest names in the portal, North Florida guard Chaz Lanier, committed to Tennessee on May 24.
He chose the Vols over BYU and Kentucky after averaging 19.7 points per game while shooting 51% from the field and 44% from beyond the arc.
Lanier is a massive pick up for Tennessee and instantly raises the ceiling for the Vols. He stands at 6-foot-4 and hails from Ensworth in Nashville.
“Home is where the heart is,” Lanier posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, soon after committing.
Head coach Rick Barnes spoke highly of the transfer, who signed on May 25.
“We are happy to welcome Chaz and his family to Rocky Top. As soon as Chaz entered the transfer portal, we identified him as someone we would love to bring home to the Volunteer State,” Barnes said. “Our fan base will love his character, humility and work ethic, as well as his strong basketball IQ. He has already proven to be one of the most efficient scorers in college basketball and we feel his ability to put the ball in the basket from all over the floor will translate well to the SEC.
“Chaz has a desire to help us win another SEC championship, as well as contend for a national title. It is clear his goals and mindset blend well with the rest of the guys in our program and this is an excellent fit. Chaz’s excitement about the opportunity to return to a state he loves so much was evident to us and we know Vol Nation will embrace him from day one.”
