In recent years, numerous African writers and storytellers have reinterpreted and updated classic folktales to reflect modern tastes and challenges. This rethinking has served to maintain and promote African cultural history while also making it more relevant to contemporary audiences. Six emerging storytellers banded together to reinvent and recreate timeless tales from throughout Africa.

 

These stories are currently being presented as short films dubbed “African Folktales, Reimagined,” produced by Netflix in collaboration with UNESCO.
