Breaking News: Georgia Bulldogs Confirm the departure of another experience star as he…

Georgia football fans got a look at some new faces during Saturday’s spring scrimmage, but perhaps the most important look they got was of a player that is entering his third year in the program. Quarterback Gunner Stockton served as the team’s second string option, and he got a lot of reps in during the game.

Outside of a few passes from Collin Drake and Sam Bush, Stockton and Carson Beck threw every ball due to true freshman Ryan Puglisi being held out due to a lower-body injury. Stockton finished the day with a stat line of 23/37 (62%), 246 passing yards, a touchdown and one interception. During his one drive with the red team, Stockton went 4/5 with 11 passing yards.

This was a huge spring for Stockton considering this was the first time in his career that was he taking all of the second team reps and a decent share of the reps with the starters. Prior to this season, Stockton sat behind the likes of Stetson Bennett, Carson Beck and Brock Vandagriff last season before he transferred to Kentucky. This spring was an important viewing period of Stockton’s development, and it would appear that Georgia got some strong answers.

Some notable plays that Stockton made on Saturday was a deep ball to Anthony Evans in the first quarter that went for 54 yards and a 32-yard strike to true freshman Nitro Tuggle. Stockton showed his ability to help push the ball down the field on offense and looked a viable option at the position for Georgia moving forward- which was a question many had of Stockton entering the spring.

Throughout spring practice, head coach Kirby Smart continuously said good things about Stockton and the way he had been practicing. The quarterback even mentioned during one of his press conferences that he had a practice in which he didn’t throw a single incompletion. All the positives that had been discussed of the third year quarterback looked to have shown up on Saturday, and fans can walk away feeling even more comfortbale about the quarterback spot moving
